The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) through the Transportation Research Board (TRB), conducts studies related to transportation to benefit state departments of transportation. Within TRB, the National Cooperative Research Program (NCHRP) works with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Federal Highway Administration to identify, fund, execute and publish these projects. The NCHRP Synthesis Program collects information on the current state of the practice for identified issues in transportation. I am writing to you now to request that you share information relative to your agency’s experience regarding your asset management practices related to collaboration with your metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), which is the subject of NCHRP Project 20-05/Synthesis Topic 51-05.

NCHRP Synthesis 20-05/Topic 51- 05 seeks to document collaborative practices for performance-cased asset management between state transportation agencies and MPOs. As part of this synthesis, a survey questionnaire has been developed to gather information. We would appreciate it if you would let us know how your State Transportation Agency collaborate with your MPOs for asset management by completing the survey listed below.
