DOTs need to continue to improve ways of tracking and communicating how decisions are made – which may require internal process improvements, new communications expertise, and new uses of social media and crowdsourcing technologies. Transparency is needed to obtain public buy-in of DOT work and respond to the growing number of public information requests.
